Macau isn’t just a hotspot for gamblers and luxury shoppers—it’ equally appealing to theatregoers as well. While Macau might not have as many live performance offerings as Las Vegas, there are plenty of other forms of entertainment just as thrilling. From a bit of acrobatics to something taboo, these five Macau live acts won’t disappoint.
For acrobatics: House of Dancing Water
The theme of House of Dancing Water is the elements and water, in particular. The performance, which is hosted at the City of Dreams casino resort, is part Chinese folk tale and part high-energy water show. Despite these two different theatrical styles, they blend together seamlessly. Expect a fair share of water stunts including a pirate-esque ship in the opening act, lots of circus acrobatics, music that will pull at your heartstrings and some seriously impressive swordplay. All in all, House of Dancing Water will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

For cabaret: TABOO
TABOO is hardly the G-rated show you’d take your kids to but it is a popular hit among adults. The risqué show is brought to you by City of Dreams and is the brainchild of Franco Dragone, who also happens to be the creator of House of Dancing Water. The show features a series of interactive performances by a talented (and good looking) group of artists from across the globe. In a nutshell, the show is like a cabaret, with a focus on secret fantasies and sensory experiences. TABOO is sophisticated and sensual and will definitely leave you wanting more.

For jazz and great views: 38 Lounge
Although technically not an official live show, 38 Lounge features a house band that performs jazz and pop hits Wednesdays through Mondays. If the music doesn’t draw you in, the sky-high views sure will. Located on the highest floor of the tallest building on Taipa Island, diners are privy to 360-degree views of Macau, from the glittering tower to the bright lights of nearby buildings. If in the mood for cognac, you’re in luck. In addition to offering 38 different cognacs, there are 38 whiskeys and 38 single malts to choose from as well, not to mention cigars.

For Karaoke fans: Club Cubic
At 30,000 square feet and two levels, Club Cubic is one of Asia’s largest nightclubs. It’s a popular spot so expect a crowd any night of the week. Music ranges rom hip-hop and house to Korean pop and techno. More often than not, there’s a guest DJ on deck, too. Besides sporting a Gothic style par, there’s also a laser lit dance pool and a Perrier-Jouët champagne bar (the first of its kind in Asia). If you’re really ready to splurge, pre-book a VIP room with a private balcony and take in the craziness below. You can even have your very own karaoke party.

For family fun: DreamWorks Experience
Calling all kids (and kids at heart)! Your favorite DreamWorks characters make the rounds throughout Cotai Strip Resorts. Get ready to see beloved animated characters from Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon, Shrek and Madagascar come to life. Enjoy a breakfast buffet while engaging in a live performance or attend the Kung Fu Panda Academy. For families on a tight budget (or schedule), opt for the All Star Parade instead. It’s free and your kids will get to see the whole DreamWorks gang plus dancers, puppets and stilt walkers.
